KEY IDEAS: A Special Way of Life Christians live their lives in special ways
Learning Objectives
Pupils should be able to
- Recognise that Christians try to follow Jesus' example
- Demonstrate familiarity with some key Christian values which influence how Christians live their lives.

- Stories which show him helping and caring for others

- Stories about Christians who help people
- Stories about people who lived their lives in a special way

- Caring for and thinking of others
- Co-operating with others
- Loving and being loved
- Forgiving and being forgiven
- Telling the truth
- Keeping promises
- Being honest
- Loving the sad or unpopular.
Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes will be :
- Listens to, responds to or retells a favourite story about Jesus which shows Him helping and caring for others
- Be part of an activity that involves helping others (e.g. "Fill a shoe box")
- Talks about why characters in stories act in certain ways
- Demonstrates tolerance of others acceptable actions
- Demonstrates positive behaviour (e.g. being co-operative, loving, patience)
- Reflects on their own actions and behaviour
- Talks about ways in which, as individuals or as a class, they care for others.

KEY IDEAS: The Church as a special place for Christians belonging to the family of the Church
Learning Objectives
Pupils should be able to
- Recognise some key features of a church
- Think about the church as a special place and reflect on their own feelings.
- Begin to understand that people belong to the church and are welcomed through special ceremonies
Suggested Teaching Content
Pupils should encounter
A visit to a church
- Focus on special features e.g. alter, windows, font, spire
- Look at pictures of different churches - focus on shape and pattern, external and internal
Special Places
- In their own experience
- Stories about special places
- People for whom the church is special
- Special events which happen in a church e.g. weddings, funerals
- Special times in church e.g. Harvest, Christmas, Easter
Belonging
- Belonging to the family at school and home
- Welcoming new babies at home - gifts, presents
- Welcoming new babies into the Church
- Baptism ceremony
- Gifts given to new babies in church - candle, certificate
Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes will be :
- Visits a church
- Makes models of churches
- Draws and names key features inside a church
- Visits a church at special times e.g. Christmas
- Responds to discussion, objects of reference, photographs of their own special places
- Talks about their own special places
- Talks about how they felt inside the church and expresses their thoughts through creative work
- Meets with Christians e.g. vicar and ask appropriate questions about what they do in church and why church is special.
- Shares memorabilia from own baptism ( or equivalent ceremony)
- Takes part in a dramatised baptism ceremony;
- Develops a role-play.
