Learning Objectives
Pupils should be able to
- Recognise and respond thoughtfully to the Mosque as a plae where Muslims worship Allah.
- Be familiar with when and how Muslims pray.

Prayers
- The five daily prayers

Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes will be
- Experiences a visit to a Mosque
- Visits a Mosque using prepared questions to find out about it as place of worship
- Listens to a recording of the call to prayer
- Talks about why Muslims never use pictures of people or animals to decorate religious objects and buildings.
- Handles artefacts appropriately (e.g. the pray mat, pray beads)
HINDUISM

KEY IDEAS: The Hindu Community Hindu Traditions
Learning Objectives
Pupils should be able to
- Describe some aspects of Hindu worship.
- Explain the ways in which some Hindu festivals are celebrated.
Suggested Teaching Content
Pupils should encounter
Worship
- Puja at home and in the temple (Mandir)
- Preparation for entering the Mandir
- The role of the divine images in worship.
Festivals
- Associated with the celebration in different parts of India
- Holi - a popular spring festival in Northern India.
Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes will be
- Experiences visit to a Mandir
- Looks at and respond to relevant artefacts
- Visits a Mandir, listens to and talks about how worship is offered
- Looks at images of the gods and explores symbolism through pictures and artefacts
- Experiences a mock Hindu celebration
- Experiences a special food e.g. Divali sweets
- Dramatises stories connected to festivals
- Listens to and talks about stories of Krishna and the Gopis (cow herds)
JUDAISM

KEY IDEAS: Family Life The Jewish home as a special place.
Learning Objectives
Pupils should be able to
- Demonstrate some understanding of the special place of the home in Jewish family life.
- Recognise some of the marks of the Jewish home.
- Describe and respond thoughtfully to some aspects of speical celebrations
Suggested Teaching Content
Pupils should encounter
The Home
- Who belongs to the family?
- What do they do together?
- pray at home- wearing a kippah, tallit, eat at home - special food koosher.
- What can be seen in the home?
- mezuzah - touching on entering the home
- special utensils in the kitchen for koosher food.
Festivals
- Shabbat - a special day
- welcoming Shabbat
- blessing the children
- blessing the wine
- sharing the meal, lighting candles
- setting the Shabbat table, sharing a meal and giving thanks
- Hanukkah - the story behind the festival, celebrating Hanukkah
Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes will be
- Handles artefacts.
- Sets up a Jewish home corner
- Takes part in playing in Jewish home corner surroundings
- Looks and/or talks about pictures, videos showing Jewish families at home
- Talks about special meals (e.g. birthday)
